Welcome to the study of Whipples and their descendants! The Whipple Database contains the Whipples we know about so far.

Whipples of British Origin

The bulk of Whipples in this study trace their ancestry to England. Henry Whipple was granted the Whipple Coat of arms in the 16th century; his posterity ended after four generations. Two Whipple groups settled in Massachusetts in the 1630s— teenage John (Dorchester 1632), and middle-aged brothers Matthew and John with their families (Ipswich 1638):

More Recent British Whipples

Recent research continues to identify additional Whipple families (often spelled Wippell or other variants). On the Disconnected Whipples page, the heads of those families are preceded by a Union Jack flag icon .

Whipples of Germanic Origin
