Whipples of Bishop's Stortford/Bocking, England and Ipswich, MA
Thomas Whipple, of Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England.
Thomas is the grandfather of Elder Matthew Whipple of Bocking. He is the earliest
known (to the Whipple Website, at least) Whipple ancestor of American Whipples.
(See William Wyman Fiske, "The Whipple Family of
Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire: Proposed Ancestral Origin of Matthew
Whipple of Bocking, Essex, and a Whipple Ancestral Line for Arthur
Gary of Roxbury, Massachusetts," The Genealogist,
Vol. 20, No. 2 (Fall 2006), p. 191-217).
Elder Matthew Whipple, of
Bocking, England.
Matthew is the
father of the Ipswich, Massachusetts, Whipples. He is
the grandson of Thomas (above). His sons Matthew and
John migrated to Ipswich in 1638.
Capt. John Whipple, of England, Dorchester,
MA, and Providence, RI. The Whipple Website probably
knows of more of John's descendants than of any other
Whipple.
Whipples Baden-Baden and Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana
George or Mitchell Whipple, of Baden-Baden and Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.
George migrated to Louisiana from Baden-Baden (in today's Germany) in 1844. His son Charles' death certificate gives his father's name as Mitchell Whipple. Not much else is known about the origins of the Baden-Baden/Terrebonne Whipples.
