In 1583 Thomas Flatman of Sterson, Norfolk sought a subpoena against John Whiple, mercer, of Broke, Norfolk, and John Wilbie, husbandman, of Pulham, for making false statements. Whipple and Wilbie filed an answer April 25, 1583. Sir Thomas Cornewalleis (Cornwall), knight, William Whipple, John Gouldingham, and Robert Cowell, gentlemen, were named to hear and examine witnesses. On April 29, 1583, Whipple deposed that the lands in question lie in parish of Pulham Market and he has "known them for 21 years or more. He signed his name John Whypple.
