Notes - !SOURCE: "Descendants of Welcome Sayles," email from N. Combs to Weldon Whipple, 19 Mar 2008. Cites/notes the following:
- Dorothy Higson White, Descendants of Roger Williams, Book III, (2002), 228 (birth, marriage to James Pitts--see note below)
- Rhode Island Cemeteries Database Index (death, burial)
- NAC note: White says James Pitts married Alice Sayles, dau. of Welcome Sayles {79603} and has another reference to his marrying Ann Eliza Sayles, dau. of Daniel Sayles 18549}; the John Smith the Miller book says he married Eliza Ann Sayles 19834, dau. of Daniel Sayles 18549. I would lean towards Alice, dau. of Welcome, as she is buried in the same cemetery as her parents. I have Eliza Ann Sayles 19834 married to James S. Cook--see separate message; they are buried in the same cemetery as her parents, siblings, etc. who lived in Glocester (later became Burrillville), Providence, RI, while Welcome Sayles and family lived in Smithfield (later became Lincoln/North Smithfield), Providence, RI. Furthermore, in 1850 James Pitts has a 2nd wife, Mary Thompson, and a daughter by her.
