!SOURCE: Email from John Dryfhout (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 13 May 2010. He writes:Asa Whipple ... [was] definitely born and baptised at the church in Sprague (Hanover) CT - 21 Sept 1775.I found a notice of the marriage of Asa Whipple to Amy Leffingwell on 1 Nov 1797. This was picked up by at least four newspapers of the region. This record is NOT in the VR of Norwich or any other community or church apparently--which is difficult but I understand that records from this period (post Revoluton) seem to be incomplete--due to the nature of the population perhaps abandoning traditional recording of such informtion (perhaps even neglecting the baptism of children?). I pick him up over a number of years as a sea captain, master and ship owner of Norwich--who eventually is found in the records of the Port of New York--where he seems to have worked out of--and was engaged in the coastal trade between the southern states of NC and VA and the Caribbean etc. Edenton, NC and New Bern--also the brother noted above, Solomon, was also a sea captain and an uncle also. Apparently where they lived in Chelsea/Norwich--was the ship building and shipping section of Norwich.
