!SOURCE: Email from Sandy Kiger (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 16 May 2016:Comments (John Franklin Whipple b. 14 Jul 1862 , , Connecticut d. 28 Sep 1902 Providence, Providence, Rhode Island): While visiting Gran Quivira of the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument in New Mexico, I saw the following etchings - or graffiti you might call it - on a couple of stones inside the main body of the church. There are apparently other "etchings" - and possibly other members of these two families whose names are also there. J. L. MARRS O'Connor 1885 Neb.
J. F. WHIPPLE O'Connor 1885 Neb.
With a little bit of poking around I learned that O'Connor is (was) a village in Greeley County, Nebraska - which is where both Joseph Lafayette Marrs (1852-1916) and his brother-in-law, John Franklin Whipple (1862-1902) were living at the time of the 1880 census. The Gran Quivera site is very near Scholle - where Joseph died.
