Regarding her great aunt, Ida Whipple Clarke, she writes: My father and his brother and sister did not know they had an Aunt Ida when they were growing up. She was kept a secret. But after Esther [Ida's sister] died, the family bible went to Aunt Judy. In the bible, Judy saw that Ida was listed as one of the children, with her birthdate but no date of death. Who was this Ida? Judy did some investigating. She found out that Ida had been committed to the state institution sometime when she was a teenager. The details were sketchy, but it appears she was deemed insane. In any case, my aunt tried to contact her. I think she did go visit her. If my facts are correct, Ida would have died AFTER Esther -- so sometime after 1974.
