"Richard Tew, son and heir of Henry, of Maidford, Northampton County, England, emigrated to New England and in 1640, with his wife, Mary Clarke, daughter of William, and settled at Newport, now Middletown. He was admitted Freeman in 1655, and served frequently as Commissioner, Assistant, Deputy and as a member of various committees. He became a Quaker and, according to tradition, died about 1673, in London, whither he had gone to look after some property."
