Cites "Landmarks of Monroe County New York," printed 1895 by the Boston History Company (various authors), p. 31 in part 2, which contains a sketch of John D. Whipple. !RESIDENCES: New York; Mormon Cooley, Wisc. (became one of the earliest settlers there in 1856); La Crosse, Wisc. --N. Mitchell
!CENSUS: 1850 Duanesburg, Schenectady Co., NY, census gives "Tallman, age 38 living with his brother (I assume) John D. Whipple age 27, wife Jane age 22, daughter, Isabella age 1, and maybe their mother or Jane's mother, Martha, age 56." --B. Padgitt
!IDENTITY: Nancy Mitchell (email hidden), in email to the Whipple Website, July 1999, writes: "I have a picture of John D Whipple, a brother of Tallman. It is the same picture that appears in the "Landmarks of Monroe County". I received the picture from a cousin in Wyoming who also is the grgrgrandchild of Tallman Whipple from LaCrosse Wisc.Along with John's picture, I also have a picture of his wife, Maria, and a picture of Tallman and his wife Susannah." Nancy feels this is sufficient to identify the Monroe County (N.Y.) Tallman as the same person as the La Crosse, Wisc. Tallman.
