His parents went to or perhaps came from Oakham Massachusetts area and this is where Charles was at age 18. Charles was well educated, attending  two colleges, one of which was Middlebury College in Vermont, from which he earned his degree in 1827. Francis Putnam Whipple was an undergraduate at the time. After graduation Charles taught school at in several towns in Vermont settling in Chester Vermont for several years where he became Superintendent of schools. He was also in  Orleans Massachusetts for a brief time. Just prior to moving to Massachusetts  he married Mary Onion !SOURCE: Email from Beverly H (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple 13 Mar 2018. "In 1847 Charles and Mary Ann moved to Wisconsin first locating in Milwaukee, then Neenah and and finally setting in Menasha in Winnebago County. Charles worked as a teacher and then turned to farming in his later years."
