!SOURCE: Email from Joanne (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 30 Jan 2012. Identifies this Stephen Hammond's father as William Hammond. Stephen "had brothers Pardon and James per his pension record. All three; Stephen, Pardon and James are mentioned as sons in the will of William Hammond." Further proof that Stephen Hammond 1764-1847 is NOT son of Stephen Hammand and Dianna Westcott:William Hammond of Adams (Berkshire, MA) grants to son Stephen of Cranston power of attorney in 1785, so that the latter may sell Cranston property owned by the former (Cranston Deeds, 4:199). The second has Stephen, mariner, exercising his power of attorney in selling the Cranston property a few months later (ibid., 4:52). Stephen Hammond the mariner [this Stephen Hammond] was selling his father's property in Cranston in 1785 - 5 years after Stephen, husband of Diana Westcott, was reportedly deceased.
