!SOURCE: Email from Joanne Vetter (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 28 May 2016. She indicates that Mary Alice and Alice (the two sisters given by some as two individuals) are actually the same person:I am attaching (in two parts) a page from Abner Spencer Whipple’s Civil War Pension file, where he lists the names and dates of birth for all of his children. Please note that he lists Mary Alice, but not a separate Alice. I believe that Mary Alice and Alice are one in the same person. She is listed in the census records as Mary (1870), Alice (1880 and 1900), and Alice M (1910-1920). Also, on the 1900 census (Davenport, Thayer County, Neb) Hannah (Abner’s wife) is listed as being the mother of 6 children, and Zoe is listed as a granddaughter. However, on the 1910 census (Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA), she is listed as having 7 children, and Zoe is listed as a daughter, not granddaughter. At the time of the pension application (1915), Abner does not list Zoe as a child. I believe that she was a child of William Sidney Whipple, even though no marriage can be found for him, and all census records list him as being single. Find-A-Grave for Virginia Zoe Whipple Parker bears this out.
